About Green City
About the Game
Green City is a free, browser-based idle city builder where every decision shapes the sustainability of your growing eco-metropolis. You start with an empty 3×3 plot of land and a handful of coins, and you grow that plot into a thriving green city by carefully choosing which buildings to place, when to upgrade them, and how to balance pollution, happiness, and energy across the grid.
Unlike traditional city builders that reward unchecked expansion, Green City is built around a sustainability theme. Polluting buildings like factories produce more coins, but they drag your City Health down. Green buildings like solar panels, parks, and community gardens earn fewer coins per tick, but they keep your city healthy and unlock higher tiers of construction. The core tension of the game is choosing how dirty you are willing to go in exchange for short-term income.
The game uses a tick-based economy. Every second, your placed buildings generate coins, consume or produce energy, and emit or absorb pollution. Buildings also slowly decay over time and need to be repaired with coins. As your population grows, you unlock milestones, complete daily challenges, and eventually prestige your city — resetting your progress in exchange for permanent Green Tokens that buy upgrades in the Prestige Shop.
Green City is intentionally short-session friendly. You can pop in for thirty seconds to repair a building and collect coins, or settle in for a longer session to plan a full carbon-neutral redesign. Your city keeps generating offline earnings while you are away, so the game respects your time.
How to Play
1. Place your first buildings. Tap an empty tile on the grid to open the build menu. Tier 1 buildings like Solar Panel, Eco House, Park, and Community Garden are available from the start. Place a mix of income buildings (Eco House, Market) and green buildings (Solar Panel, Park) to keep coins flowing while keeping City Health stable.
2. Watch your City Health. City Health is a 0–100 score driven by pollution, happiness, energy balance, and building diversity. Below 50 it decays faster, and below 30 you risk City Collapse. The health bar at the top of the screen shows the current value and trend.
3. Repair your buildings. Every building slowly degrades. A worn building at under 50% condition produces only 75% of its stats, and at under 25% condition only 25%. Tap the wrench icon on a tile to repair it — repair cost scales with how degraded the building is.
4. Expand your grid. You can buy grid expansions with coins: the first expansion (3×3 → 4×4) is 800 coins, the second (4×4 → 4×5) is 2,500, and the third (4×5 → 5×5) is 6,000. Expansion Tokens from the Prestige Shop waive the cost.
5. Unlock higher tiers. Tier 2 buildings unlock at City Health 50 and 6+ placed buildings. Tier 3 buildings unlock at City Health 80, 12+ buildings, and at least one prestige completion. Higher tiers offer the strongest stats but require a healthy, well-managed city.
6. Prestige to grow long-term. Once your population is large enough, you can prestige — wiping your city in exchange for permanent Green Tokens. Tokens buy upgrades in the Prestige Shop like the Plot Discount (halves first expansion cost), bonus starting coins, and exclusive buildings like the Streak Fountain.

Energy and Pollution values are per-tick contributions: negative numbers reduce pollution or produce energy; positive numbers consume energy or emit pollution.
Tips for New Players
- Open with green. Place 2–3 Solar Panels and a Park before adding any Eco Houses. A stable energy and pollution baseline makes everything else easier.
- Resist the Factory trap. Factories pay 6 coins/s but emit 5 pollution per tick. One Factory without enough green buildings can wreck your City Health and stall progression.
- Repair early, not late. Repair cost scales with how broken a building is, so fixing at 60% condition is much cheaper than waiting until 10%.
- Diversify. City Health rewards having at least 5 different building types. A monoculture city of houses caps your score.
- Save expansions for after Tier 2. A full 3×3 of well-chosen Tier 2 buildings out-earns a sparsely filled 4×5 of Tier 1s.
- Prestige once you stall. If your income flatlines and you cannot unlock the next tier, prestige and reinvest Green Tokens in the Prestige Shop — you will rebuild faster every run.
